We all need to feel safe in our own home, and often that has nothing to do with home security systems or locks. As our mobility decreases, or if we have an accident or fall, the home that used to suit our needs suddenly seems a little less accommodating. The good news is that minor additions such as hand rails, grab rails, ramps and non-slip surfaces can make a world of difference, allowing you to live in the home you love for longer.

At The Help, we offer simple, effective ways to make your home a safer place, and the expertise to fit devices made to make life a little easier. Our team of expert handymen and women are happy to help with:

Grants for adapting your home

Local councils offer a Disabled Facilities Grant to help pay for adaptations to your home if you are or become disabled, including the building of ramps to enable wheelchair access.

Elderly people with mobility issues who qualify as disabled should be able to access these grants, whether they own the property or are a tenant. Equally, you can apply for the grant if you live with someone who is disabled, but the level of grant does depend on the household income and household savings. In England, you can receive up to £30,000, but you may not receive a grant if you start work on your home before your application is approved.
